Local Transportation Information

Department of Public Safety
Located at 111 Tri-Star, at Highway 3 across from Ellington Field. This office issues Driver Licenses, Learner's permits and official identification cards. The office is open from 8 to 5 Monday through Friday. For information call 281-486-8242.

Houston Airport System
Hobby Airport
Hobby Airport, 7800 Airport Blvd., is used by approximately 8 million passengers annually. The airport is situated on approximately 1300 acres, with 400 improved acres for buildings, aircraft pavement and parking facilities.

Ellington Airport/Ellington Joint Reserve Base
On Highway 3 (Old Galveston Road) is a former military base now owned by the city of Houston. Ellington is used to support military and NASA, to act as a reliever airport for Houston Hobby Airport, to promote general aviation and provide space for airport related activities not requiring direct airfield access.

Metro Bus
The Houston Metro Bus serves the South Belt area with daily transit service from various locations within the area to Almeda Mall, Hobby Airport and downtown with transfers available to many areas including the medical center.

South Belt Park and Ride
The South Belt Park and Ride, 11755 Sabo Road has capacity for approximately 950 vehicles. The facility connects to the High Occupancy Vehicle lane of the Gulf Freeway. It features security, a shelter area and telephone access.

South Belt Pool and Ride
The South Belt Pool and Ride located on the Gulf Freeway between Fuqua and South Belt has capacity for approximately 450 vehicles. It is designed for car and van poolers and has direct access to the HOV lane. It, like the South Belt Park and Ride, features security, a shelter area and telephone access.

The Port of Houston Authority
The Port of Houston has been instrumental in the city of Houston's development as a center of international trade. About 88 steamship lines offer service linking Houston with 1,053 ports in 203 countries. It is also home to a $15 billion petrochemical complex, the largest in the nation and second largest worldwide.
