Parade, fireworks set for July 4

The annual South Belt Fourth of July parade and fireworks show are quickly approaching.

Now in its 21st year, the parade will wind from Beverly Hills Intermediate to San Jacinto College South. While the procession begins at 10 a.m., participants are urged to arrive early, as the lineup begins at 9 a.m.

This year’s theme is Stars and Stripes Forever, and participants are encouraged to decorate their vehicles as patriotically as possible. Prizes will be awarded to the best-decorated vehicles in various categories.

Houston Mayor Bill White will once again be participating in the event. Other expected participants include sports organizations, civic clubs, Scout troops, church groups and businesses.

Entry forms are located at the Leader office, 11555 Beamer, and on the Leader Web site at www.southbeltleader.com.

Following the parade, residents are invited to watch the fireworks show at El Franco Lee Park, 9400 Hall Road. Funded by the annual South Belt Spectacular Cookoff, the fireworks display will begin at 9:30 p.m.
