Local Libraries

Bracewell City Library
Located at 10115 Kleckley, Bracewell is adjacent to Almeda Mall. Included in its collection are books-on-tape, compact discs, magazines, large-print books, children's books-on-tape and books in Spanish.

The library offers a variety of services including telephone and in-house reference information, a public access catalog and children's storytimes.

Bracewell provides an outside bookdrop as well as telephone renewal at 832-Bracewell Library sketch393-2580. Self-service facilities available include word-processors and a copy machine. The library catalog is available through www.Houstonlibrary.org.

Hours are Monday and Thursday from noon to 8 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 1 to 6 p.m.

Currently a replacement for Bracewell is to be constructed at Beltway 8 and Kingspoint.

Harris County Parker Williams Library
The spacious 20,000-square-foot Harris County Parker Williams Branch Public Library at Scarsdale and Beamer opened in 1993. Regular seating for reading and study accommodates 125, and a separate meeting room seating 75 may be reserved by the public.

The online catalog is user friendly and can be accessed, along with various databases, from home computers at www.hcpl.net.

Books may be transferred from other branches at no charge. The library features a large Vietnamese collection as well as some Spanish titles and a large selection of videos in VHS and DVD format.

The library offers English as a second language classes as well as training for volunteer tutors interested in teaching adults basic literacy or ESL.

Free computer classes are offered monthly. Storytimes are every Wednesday for preschoolers and Thursday mornings for toddlers. Vietnamese story and learning times are presented Fridays and Saturdays. During the summer, the library sponsors a summer reading program and presents special programs.

Harris County library cards are free to Texas residents who provide proof of their current address. Library hours are Monday from 1 to 9 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For information, call 281-484-2036.
